![]() Everything else is done on the Rii remote. Most of the time, I tell the Harmony I want to 'Watch Shield' and it turns on the TV and Receiver and sets them to the right inputs and I can use it to adjust the volume if I want. Neither work well with CEC so I need the more function-rich Harmony to make them work well. I didn't bother to get it working because my TV is positively ancient in terms of home theater devices (Vizio VP505 XVT Plasma from 2010/2011 I think) and my receiver is well into middle age (Onkyo TX-NR616 from 2013). the Shield remote has an IR blaster in it and you can tell the shield that you want to use its remote to run the TV or receiver volume using the shield remote. I *also* have a Harmony One remote that I use to run my TV and receiver. It works very well because it has an integrated keyboard. I have a Shield TV Pro (2019) and I got this remote to work with it (via USB 2.4ghz dongle it came with). Google image search app name + icon and grab a png for each app and use the desktop myharmony app to upload the icons and set the channel numbers. That's a tricky thing to solve. It's a little tedious to set up, but once it's done it's done. ![]() Then in button mapper you set a double press of 3, for example, to launch the app you assigned as a favorite to channel 33. Press and hold can't be utilized here but single and double press can, giving you 2 apps for each button 0-9. Button mapper can react differently to a button single press, double press, and press and hold. Step 4 is to program Button Mapper on the shield to react to these inputs. When you have this watch TV activity setup, then step 3 you can set up your "favorite channels" for the hub which are inherently tied to the watch TV activity. Step 2 of adding Flirc Kodi as a device allows you to select it as the device in the activity which "changes channels" which is what harmony sends the numeric inputs 0-9 to as if it were just a tv or cable box. this is how these remotes should have always worked by default.īonus: I also map the Record button on the remote to activate Google Assistant (with usb microphone plugged in), and map the Guide button to "switch apps" this way you can just select a Favorites app from the remote before even turning on the activity! and then you can even set a specific favorite app as the default "channel" for the activity every time you start it. Pro tip: edit the FLIRC device settings to add power commands (it's defaulted to always on) then change device settings so you can add a power-on delay of 5 seconds. Obviously you can map and program the Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue buttons to launch apps too but this is way more fun. Sync changes to your hub/remote, download Button Mapper on shield and set up custom actions to launch apps with buttons 0-9, taking advantage of both single press and double press (0 single press launches channel 0, 0 double press launches channel 00)Īnd that's it. etc) (yes, 00 is distinct from 0) (enter your zipcode and select any provider, then deselect all local channels and go to next to setup custom channels) 20 channels because you can send commands 0-9 and 00-99 (11,22,33. no need to program, just plug it inĪdd FLIRC Kodi as a device and setup a "Watch TV" activity with the FLIRC device set to "change channels" (only Watch TV enables the use of channel favorites, you can still add the Shield itself as a device to control via BT for most buttons)Ĭonfigure up to 20 "favorite channels" in the desktop MyHarmony app with your own custom icons for each app. Get a FLIRC usb IR receiver to send IR commands to the shield. This is now similar to how Harmony can launch Roku apps directly from the remote. ![]() ![]() This has been something I've wanted on my remotes for a LOOONG time, and I finally figured it out.
